Welcome to PodoNet

PodoNet is a European research consortium to investigate diseases affecting the podocyte, the cell which forms the glomerular filtration barrier.

Our mission is to advance our understanding of the demographics, causes and prognosis of steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome in children and adults, provide an evidence base for clinical management and explore innovative treatment strategies for genetically based disease.

To achieve this mission, PodoNet has established an online clinical registry open to all clinician scientists who want to contribute information about patients with steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome. To date, 67 pediatric nephrology centers in 28 countries have registered with PodoNet. Currently, 677 patients from 44 centers are followed in the PodoNet registry.

The clinical and genetic information collected serves to provide rational diagnostic and therapeutic clinical practice guidelines, to establish genotype-phenotype correlations in hereditary forms of disease, and to collect a critical mass of cases and families to foster the search for new genetic entities of SRNS.
